Kids Encyclopedia Facts

La Rosa de Guadalupe (which means The Rose of Guadalupe in English) is a popular Mexican anthology drama television series. It was created by Carlos Mercado Orduña. The show focuses on Mexican Catholic beliefs, especially about the Virgin of Guadalupe. Each episode tells a different story set in modern times, often in Mexico City. The series first aired on Las Estrellas in Mexico on February 5, 2008. In the United States, it started on Univision on June 26, 2008.

How the Stories Work

Each episode of La Rosa de Guadalupe usually starts in one of two ways. Sometimes, it begins with a happy event. Other times, it starts with a character facing a big problem or a difficult situation. This problem then kicks off the main story.

The White Rose and a Wish

In most episodes, the main characters are very devoted to the Virgin of Guadalupe. They often pray to her for help or protection. When someone prays or is in trouble, a white rose appears. This rose shows up in front of an altar or a statue of the Virgin that belongs to that person. The rose stays there while the story unfolds and the problem often gets bigger. The appearance of the white rose means that the Virgin has heard their prayer.

The Virgin's Help

As the story reaches its most intense point, someone close to the main character steps in to help them. This person is often guided by the Virgin. Once the problem is solved, the main character feels a special "wind" touch them. This wind represents the Virgin of Guadalupe helping them. At the end of the episode, the white rose disappears. Then, a character explains the important message or lesson from that story.
