Lacy J. Banks (born in 1943) was an American sportswriter. He worked for the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper starting in 1972 and continued until he passed away. He was the first African-American sportswriter at that newspaper. Banks wrote mostly about basketball, especially the NBA and the famous Chicago Bulls team.

Early Life and Career

Lacy J. Banks was born in Lyon, Mississippi. He went to the University of Kansas where he studied French. Later, he served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Besides his sports articles, he also helped write a book about boxing called Winning Boxing in 1980.

His Family and Later Years

Lacy J. Banks passed away in 2012 when he was 68 years old. He had been unwell in his later years. He was married to his wife, Joyce, for 43 years. They had three daughters and five grandchildren.
