What is the Lady of Cerro de los Santos?

This sculpture is made from limestone. It shows a full-length standing woman. The statue is about 1.3 meters (4.3 feet) tall. It was found in 1870. The discovery happened at the sanctuary of Cerro de los Santos. This place is near Montealegre del Castillo in the Albacete province of Spain.

Why is she called the "Offering Lady"?

The statue is sometimes called the Gran Dama Oferente. This means "Great Offering Lady." She holds a container in both hands. It looks like she is offering something. This is why she has her special name.

What is she wearing?

The Lady of Cerro de los Santos wears very fancy clothes. She has three layers of robes. These robes are fastened at her neck with a fibula. A fibula is like a decorative pin or brooch. Her braided hair falls down past three necklaces. She also wears fitted shoes.

On one side of her head, she has a special kind of headgear. It is called a rodete, which looks like a wheel. It is thought there might have been a similar one on the other side. But that part is now broken off.

Her clothing falls in a special way. It makes a zigzag pattern. Another ancient Iberian sculpture, the Lady of Baza, also has this style. This zigzag look was popular in art influenced by the Phoenician people.
