Lake Bridgeport, also known as Bridgeport Lake, is a large, man-made lake in North Texas. It's located in Wise and Jack Counties. This freshwater lake was made by building a dam across the West Fork of the Trinity River. It sits just above another lake called Eagle Mountain Lake.
The Tarrant Regional Water District owns Lake Bridgeport. They use its water for several important things. These include helping to prevent floods and providing water for homes, businesses, and farms. The lake is also a popular spot for fun activities.
How Lake Bridgeport Was Made
Lake Bridgeport started as the Bridgeport Reservoir. It was part of a big plan to control floods along the West Fork of the Trinity River. Building the dam for the lake began in 1929. It was finished just two years later, in 1931. The whole project cost about $2 million at that time.
