Lake Ceva is a cool, man-made lake located in Ewing Township, New Jersey. It's right on the campus of The College of New Jersey, near a stream called Shabakunk Creek. This lake is about 6 acres in size, which is like six football fields! It's a special spot that adds beauty to the college campus.

What is Lake Ceva?

Lake Ceva is a type of lake known as a reservoir. This means it's a man-made body of water, not a natural one. People create reservoirs by building a dam across a river or stream. They are often built to store water for different uses.

How Lake Ceva Was Created

Lake Ceva was built a long time ago, in the 1920s. Before The College of New Jersey campus was even there, a local landowner decided to create this lake. They built an earthen dam across a small stream that flowed into the Shabakunk Creek. This dam held back the water, forming the lake we see today.

Lake Ceva's Location

This lake is found in Mercer County, New Jersey. It's an important part of the landscape in Ewing Township. Lake Ceva is also very close to another lake called Lake Sylva.

The Hillwood Lakes Area

Because Lake Ceva and Lake Sylva are so close, they gave their names to a part of Ewing Township. This area is known as the Hillwood Lakes section. It's a nice way to remember the two lakes that are a big part of the community.

Why Are Man-Made Lakes Important?

Man-made lakes like Lake Ceva serve many purposes. While Lake Ceva mainly adds to the beauty of the college campus, other reservoirs can:

  • Store drinking water: Many cities get their water from reservoirs.
  • Help with flood control: They can hold extra water during heavy rains.
  • Provide recreation: People often enjoy fishing, boating, or swimming in them.
  • Generate electricity: Some large dams use the water to make power.

Lake Ceva is a great example of how people can shape the environment. It shows how a simple dam can create a lasting feature. It's a peaceful place for students and visitors to enjoy.
