Lake Sylva is a beautiful man-made lake in New Jersey. It's located on the campus of The College of New Jersey in Ewing. This lake covers about 11 acres of land.
How Lake Sylva Was Made
Lake Sylva was created a long time ago, in the 1920s. A local landowner built an earthen dam across the Shabakunk Creek. This dam helped form the lake. It was built even before the current college campus was there!
What's Special About Lake Sylva?
Lake Sylva used to have several small islands. However, these islands were removed during a special project in 1988 and 1989. This project helped to make the lake deeper.
Lake Sylva is also right next to another lake called Lake Ceva. Together, these two lakes gave their name to the "Hillwood Lakes" area of Ewing.
