Exploring Lake Linganore's Community
Lake Linganore is a big place, covering over 4,000 acres. It has about 5,000 homes. The community is divided into 15 smaller areas called "villages." These villages are built around four lakes that were made by people.
The Lakes of Lake Linganore
The four main lakes are Lake Anita Louise, Lake Merle, Lake Marion, and the biggest one, Lake Linganore. Lake Linganore itself is a huge reservoir, about 210 acres in size. It was created on Linganore Creek.
Lake Linganore is the largest privately owned lake in Maryland. This means only people who live in the community can use it. Residents can enjoy two sandy beaches, Coldstream Beach and Nightingale Beach. There are also more than 30 miles of trails, mostly through wooded areas.
Nature and Management
A big part of the community, about one-third, is kept as open space. This helps protect nature and gives residents room to explore. The Lake Linganore Association manages the community. They help keep everything running smoothly.
The U.S. Census Bureau keeps track of how many people live in this area. They include Lake Linganore within a larger area called the Linganore census-designated place.
History of Lake Linganore
Lake Linganore was started in 1968. It was planned as a "new town" by a company called Linganore Corporation. The goal was to build homes while protecting the natural environment. It was Frederick County's first planned community.
Early Homes and Growth
The first homes built in Lake Linganore were small, cottage-style houses. They were on narrow, winding roads that fit in with the landscape. Later, different styles of homes were added. These included modern houses, townhouses, and large luxury estates. The newer areas have wider streets and sidewalks.
The community is still growing. It is expected to have about 6,400 homes by the year 2030.
