Lake Michigamme: A Big Michigan Lake

Lake Michigamme stretches about 6 miles (10 km) from east to west. It also has a southern arm that reaches out for another 4 miles (6 km). A special dam separates the Michigamme River from the main part of the lake. This dam is located at the end of the southern arm.

Where is Lake Michigamme?

Two rivers flow into Lake Michigamme. The Spurr River enters the lake at its western end. The Peshekee River flows into the lake in the northeast. You can visit Van Riper State Park to get to the lake. The park and Van Riper beach are on the eastern shore of the lake's main arm. The lake has many islands and rocky areas. Sometimes, these rocks pop out of the water in late summer and fall.
