Lake Pohenegamook (also called Lac Pohénégamook in French) is a cool lake found in Canada. It's located in the southeastern part of Quebec, a Canadian province. This lake is very close to the border between Canada and the United States, right next to Maine. It's special because it's where the Saint Francis River begins its journey!

Exploring Lake Pohenegamook's Location
Lake Pohenegamook is nestled in a long valley. This valley is part of the Notre Dame Mountains, which are themselves a part of the bigger Appalachian Range. Imagine a long, narrow lake stretching from north to south, surrounded by these ancient mountains.
How to Get Around the Lake
If you wanted to drive around the lake, you would use Route 289. This road runs along the southern and western sides of the lake. Along this route, you'll find the town of Pohénégamook. This town is actually made up of several smaller villages that joined together.
Trains and the Lake
A long time ago, in 1912, a big railway line was built right next to the lake. This was the National Transcontinental Railway. It connected cities like Winnipeg in Manitoba all the way to Moncton in New Brunswick. Today, this same railway line is used by CN Rail. It helps connect places like Halifax and Montreal, Quebec. The trains travel along the western and southern shores of the lake, just like the road.
A Special Border Town
