Keeping the Lake Healthy
From 1998 to 2003, people worked hard to keep Lake St. Helen healthy. They had a special project to get rid of a water weed called milfoil. This plant can grow very fast and cover the water, making it hard for other plants and animals to live. To help control it, they even brought in tiny insects called weevils that eat the milfoil. This project was a big success at the time!
