"Home of State Champions"

Lake View High School has long established itself as a leader in high school sports in South Carolina with a history that can hardly be matched throughout the state. The school colors are royal blue and gold and the school mascot is the “Wild Gators”. The Gators have particularly had success in football and baseball where they have won an unprecedented 17 State Championships (Tied for 1st all-time in South Carolina).

The football team has won nine State Championships (1938, 1961, 1970, 1971, 1981, 1989, 1991, 1997, 2010, and 2017) which is tied for 4th most all-time in the state. The team has also finished runner-up six additional seasons (1939, 1976, 1990, 1992, 2002 and 2003). In the 50 years between 1960-2010, the football team established a record of 464-155-7 (74.12% winning percentage), or an average of over 9 wins a season for half a century. The Wild Gators also played in four consecutive State Championships between 1989-1992, winning two.

The baseball team has won eight State Championships (1938, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2006) which is 4th most all-time in the state. The team has also captured three additional Lower State Championships and would eventually finish runner-up in 1987, 2002 and 2011. The baseball team still holds several state records including the longest winning streak in state history at 49 games (between 1999-2001). The streak began with winning the final two games in the 1999 State Championship series against Jonesville. The 2000 baseball team completed the “perfect season” going 24-0, defeating Lewisville in the State Championship. The 2001 baseball team began the season 23-0 before falling in game two of the State Championship to Dixie. However, the team rebounded the next game to claim the championship for the 5th consecutive season. The 2001 team also holds the state record for most shut-outs in a season with 18 (the 2000 team is also on the list with 14).

Although Lake View has primarily seen success in football and baseball, other sports have excelled. The basketball team won the 1981-1982 State Championship and the softball team has recently become a perennial power. The team won its first State Championship in softball in 2007 and has won three additional Lower State Championships in 1993, 2008 and 2010.
