Exploring Lake View's Location and Size
Lake View is found in the southeastern part of Dillon County. It is about 2 miles (3.2 km) southwest of the North Carolina border. The town is also about 13 miles (21 km) southeast of the city of Dillon.
The town covers a total area of about 1.7 square miles (4.4 square kilometers). All of this area is land. Lake View is located along South Carolina Highway 9. This highway is a main road that leads to Myrtle Beach. During times when many people are evacuating for hurricanes or during busy tourist seasons, this two-lane highway can get very crowded.

Over the years, the number of people living in Lake View has changed. In 2000, there were 789 people living in the town. The population was made up of different groups. About 63.62% of the people were White, and 34.73% were African American. A small number of people were Native American or from other backgrounds.

A Look at Lake View's Past
The town of Lake View started with a different name. It was first known as Ford's Mill. Later, in 1870, its name was changed to "Page's Mill." The town officially became a town, or "incorporated," as Page's Mill in 1907.
However, the citizens of the town decided to change its name again in 1916. They voted to call it "Lake View," which is the name it still has today.
Lake View is also the hometown of Shaquille Leonard. He is a famous football player who played in high school as a receiver, running back, and linebacker.
