Lake Viking is a community in Daviess County, Missouri, United States. It is called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it is an area that the government counts for population. However, it is not an officially incorporated town or city. In 2020, about 486 people lived in Lake Viking.
Geography
Lake Viking is located in the southwestern part of Daviess County. The community is built around a large lake also called Lake Viking. This lake was created by building a dam on South Big Creek. South Big Creek is a smaller stream that flows into the Grand River.
The community of Lake Viking stretches southwest towards the village of Altamont. It is about 3 miles (5 km) east of Interstate 35. This interstate highway connects many parts of the United States. Lake Viking is also about 68 miles (109 km) northeast of Kansas City.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the total area of Lake Viking is about 8.8 square miles (22.7 km2). Most of this area, about 7.9 square miles (20.4 km2), is land. The rest, about 0.87 square miles (2.26 km2), is water. This water area makes up nearly 10% of the community's total size.
