Lakehead is a small community in Shasta County, California. It's known as a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that the government counts for population, but it's not officially a city or town.
Lakehead is located about halfway between the big cities of Seattle and Los Angeles. It sits at an elevation of about 1,447 feet (441 meters) above sea level. In 2020, 469 people lived in Lakehead. This was a small increase from 461 people in 2010.
Lakehead became its own CDP for the 2010 census. Before that, it was part of a larger area called Lakehead-Lakeshore.
History of Lakehead
In 2018, a large wildfire called the Carr Fire affected the area. Because of the fire, the western part of Lakehead was temporarily closed to visitors for safety.
Geography and Climate
Lakehead covers an area of about 5.3 square miles (13.7 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 4.7 square miles (12.1 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.6 square miles (1.5 square kilometers), is water. This means about 11% of Lakehead's total area is water.

Lakehead has a type of weather called a warm-summer Mediterranean climate. This means it has hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. It's similar to the climate you might find around the Mediterranean Sea.

The 2010 United States Census collected information about the people living in Lakehead. At that time, 461 people lived there in 228 homes.
Most of the people in Lakehead were White (about 91%). There were also people who identified as Native American, Asian, or from two or more races. A small percentage of the population (about 2.4%) identified as Hispanic or Latino.
The census showed that everyone counted lived in a household. About 11% of homes had children under 18 living there. The average number of people in each home was about 2.
The population of Lakehead is quite spread out in terms of age. About 9% of residents were under 18 years old. A large group, nearly 47%, were between 45 and 64 years old. About 29% of the people were 65 years old or older. The average age in Lakehead was 57.7 years.
Most homes in Lakehead (about 80%) were owned by the people living in them. The rest were rented. As of March 2019, there were over 700 people in Lakehead who were registered to vote.
