A Look Back in Time: How the Museum Started

The Lakeland Motor Museum first opened its doors in Grange-over-Sands in 1978. It was an extra fun spot for visitors to the beautiful Holker Hall. A man named Donald Sidebottom created the museum. He had been collecting cars and other cool motoring items since the 1960s. He wanted to share his amazing collection with everyone!

In 2006, a company called Winander Group Holdings Ltd bought the museum's collection. This company also owns Windermere Lake Cruises, so they know a lot about fun attractions!

After more than 30 years at Holker Hall, the museum moved to a new home in 2010. It found a perfect spot in Backbarrow. The new location used to be sheds where they packaged blue dye!
