Lakeport State Park is a fun place to visit on the shores of Lake Huron in Michigan. It's a state park that offers lots of outdoor activities. The park is split into two parts, one on each side of the town of Lakeport.

The northern part of the park has two campgrounds, a sandy beach, and a camp store. The southern part has a nice picnic area and another beachfront. It's a great spot for families and friends to enjoy nature and the big lake!

Park History and Growth

How the Park Started

Lakeport State Park first opened its northern section in 1946. The state spent about $85,000 to get it ready for visitors by 1947. This helped create a wonderful new place for people to enjoy the outdoors.

Adding the South Unit

The southern part of the park used to be a special retreat for a group called the United Auto Workers. In 1962, an important student declaration called the Port Huron Statement was written and shared there. This southern area was added to Lakeport State Park in the late 1960s, making the park even bigger.
