Lakes by the Bay was a community in Miami-Dade County, Florida, in the United States. It used to be a special area defined for counting people (a "census-designated place" or CDP). In 2000, about 9,055 people lived there. By 2005, Lakes by the Bay became part of the nearby town of Cutler Bay.

The area covered about 12.9 square kilometers (5 square miles) in total. Most of this was land, about 12.6 square kilometers (4.9 square miles). A small part, about 0.3 square kilometers (0.1 square miles), was water.
A Look at Lakes by the Bay's Past
The Impact of Hurricane Andrew
In August 1992, a very strong storm called Hurricane Andrew hit Lakes by the Bay and the areas around it in South Miami-Dade. This hurricane caused a lot of damage. Many homes and businesses in the neighborhood were completely destroyed.
Rebuilding the Community
After the hurricane, the community slowly started to rebuild. The homes that were destroyed were often made of wood. However, the new buildings were constructed with strong concrete walls. This was done to make them safer if another big storm hit.
Even though many parts of Miami were affected by Hurricane Andrew, Lakes by the Bay was one of the places that suffered the most. It still reminds people today of how powerful and destructive that hurricane was.
