Amateur Highlights
- In 1995, he took second place at the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata, Argentina.
- He beat Moises Rolon from Puerto Rico by points.

- Brewster tried to join the 1996 Atlanta Olympics team. However, he lost in the trials to Nate Jones and DaVarryl Williamson.
Becoming a Professional Boxer
Lamon Brewster started his professional boxing career in 1996. For his first three years, he was undefeated. His first losses came in 2000, when he lost decisions to Clifford Etienne and Charles Shufford.
Winning the WBO Heavyweight Title
On April 10, 2004, Brewster fought Wladimir Klitschko for the vacant World Boxing Organization championship. The title became available after Corrie Sanders gave it up.
In the early rounds, Klitschko seemed to be in control. He even knocked Brewster down in the fourth round. But in the fifth round, Brewster landed a powerful left hook. This punch hurt Klitschko badly. Brewster then landed more punches, and Klitschko went down right as the round ended. The referee stopped the fight, giving Brewster a technical knockout (TKO) victory.
For many years, Lamon Brewster was the last boxer to knock out Klitschko. This changed when Anthony Joshua won by TKO against Klitschko in 2017.
Defending the Title
Brewster successfully defended his WBO title twice.
- On May 21, 2005, he defeated Andrew Golota by TKO in the first round.
- On September 28, 2005, he beat Luan Krasniqi by TKO in the ninth round.
Losing the Title and Rematch
On April 1, 2006, Brewster lost his WBO title to Siarhei Liakhovich from Belarus. Brewster said he couldn't see with his left eye after the first round. It was later found that he had a serious eye injury called a detached retina. He needed surgery for this injury.
Lamon Brewster had a rematch with Wladimir Klitschko on July 7, 2007. The fight took place in Köln (Cologne), Germany. Brewster's trainer stopped the fight after the sixth round, meaning Brewster lost. This fight was for the IBF and IBO heavyweight titles.
Later Career and Retirement
After his second fight with Klitschko, Brewster had a few more matches. He lost to Gbenga Oloukun in 2009. The next year, he was stopped by a rising boxer named Robert Helenius.
Lamon Brewster officially announced his retirement from professional boxing on January 9, 2011. He said his eye injury from the fight with Helenius was the main reason. He had several surgeries to try and fix his vision.
