William Lamont Strothers (born May 10, 1968) is a retired American professional basketball player. He played college basketball for Christopher Newport. He had short stints in the NBA with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Dallas Mavericks. Lamont spent most of his career playing basketball overseas. After retiring, he became a high school basketball coach.

Lamont Strothers was born on May 10, 1968, in Nansemond County, Virginia. In 2023, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Hampton University.
Playing Basketball: High School and College
Lamont Strothers was a talented shooter for Forest Glen High School in Suffolk, Virginia. In 1986, he had an eye injury that affected his vision. Because of this, he could not join the military.
After high school, Lamont worked for a while and played basketball in local leagues. An assistant coach from Christopher Newport University saw him play and offered him a spot on the team. Lamont played four years at Christopher Newport University from 1987 to 1991. He scored an amazing 2,709 points during his college career, averaging 23.3 points per game. In 1991, he was named an All-American and the Division III Player of the Year. He finished his college career as one of the top scorers in Division III history.
Professional Basketball Career
NBA and Overseas Play
In the 1991 NBA draft, the Golden State Warriors picked Lamont Strothers. He was the 43rd player chosen overall. This was a big deal because he was the highest-ever draft pick from an NCAA Division III school. He was then traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. He also played a short time with the Dallas Mavericks. In total, he played 13 games in the NBA.
Lamont spent most of his professional career playing basketball in other countries. He was very successful in the Philippines, playing for the San Miguel Beermen from 1996 to 2002. He was voted the Best Import player in the 1999 PBA Governors Cup. He led his team to a championship that year and again in the 2000 Governor's Cup. Lamont finished his PBA career with over 3,900 points. He was also the top scorer in the Turkish League twice, in 1996 and 1997.
Coaching Basketball
After his playing career, Lamont Strothers became a basketball coach.
- From 2006 to 2007, he was the head coach at Bethel High School in Virginia.
- In 2010, he was honored by being included in the USA South Conference's first Hall of Fame class.
- He also worked as an assistant coach for the Christopher Newport University Captains during their run to the Final Four in the 2010–11 season.
- In August 2011, he became the head boys' varsity basketball coach at Warwick High School in Newport News, Virginia. He coached there for two seasons.
- In 2015, Lamont coached the boys' basketball team at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy.
- In 2017, he was named coach of the boys' basketball team at Smithfield High School.
- In 2018, Lamont took over the basketball program at Menchville High School.
