Landess is a small community in Grant County, Indiana, in the United States. It is known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It's also a census-designated place (CDP), which is an area the government defines for counting people.

Landess is located in two different areas called townships: Washington and Van Buren townships. In 2020, about 153 people lived here.

History of Landess

Landess was started a long time ago, in 1882. A person named William Landess founded the community.

Just two years later, in 1884, a post office was opened in Landess. This was important for sending and receiving mail. The post office served the community for many years, but it closed down in 1996.

Where is Landess Located?

Landess is in the northeastern part of Grant County, Indiana. It is about 9 miles (14 kilometers) northeast of Marion, Indiana, which is the main city and county seat of Grant County.

Another nearby town is Van Buren, Indiana, which is about 3 miles (5 kilometers) to the east. A big highway called Interstate 69 runs along the southeastern edge of Landess. However, you can't get on or off the highway directly from Landess. The closest exits are a few miles away.

The total area of Landess is about 1.4 square miles (3.6 square kilometers). All of this area is land; there are no large bodies of water within the community.
