The Landfair Apartments are two historic buildings in the Westwood area of Los Angeles, California. They are located at the corner of Landfair Avenue and Ophir Drive. People often called these buildings The Glass House because of their design. Later, they were renamed Robison Hall to honor Everett Robison. He was a member of the University Cooperative Housing Association who sadly died while serving in World War II.

These buildings are part of a group of homes designed by Richard Neutra. He was a famous architect who created many modern buildings in Los Angeles. Other buildings he designed nearby include the Strathmore Apartments, Elkay Apartments, and Kelton Apartments. Experts in architecture, Robert Winter and David Gebhard, believe the Landfair Apartments are one of Neutra's best examples of the International Style from the 1930s.

History of the Landfair Apartments

The Landfair Apartments were designed in 1937 by Richard Neutra. He used the International Style, which is a type of modern architecture. This style often uses clean lines, flat roofs, and lots of glass.

Originally, the complex had five townhouses and two regular apartments. In 1941, the University Cooperative Housing Association bought the buildings. They changed the buildings to be more like dorms for students. During this change, some balconies and outside glass walls were removed.

The buildings have also been updated to meet modern safety rules. These updates make them stronger in case of an earthquake and easier for everyone to use. One apartment was kept exactly as it was. This helps people see what Neutra's original design looked like.

On May 20, 1987, the City of Los Angeles officially recognized the buildings. They were named a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. This means they are an important historic place in the city.
