The greens, which are the smooth areas around the holes, were updated in 1998. They are now planted with a special type of grass called Champion Bermuda.

Explore the Mobile Botanical Gardens

The Mobile Botanical Gardens cover about 100 acres. This is a wonderful place to see many different kinds of plants. The gardens have a special section with over 1,000 azalea plants. Azaleas are beautiful flowering bushes. There is also a 30-acre area called the Longleaf Pine Habitat. This area shows what a natural forest in Alabama looks like.

Enjoy Art at the Mobile Museum of Art

The Mobile Museum of Art is located inside Langan Park. It has many different art collections. You can see art from Europe, America, and other parts of the world. There are also collections of decorative arts, like fancy furniture and pottery.

Learn Theatre at Playhouse in the Park

Playhouse in the Park started in 1961. Its main goal is to teach young people about theatre arts. They put on four big shows every year. The program also offers training in acting, dancing, singing, and playing piano. They even have classes for making scenery for plays. Playhouse in the Park also has a traveling drama group and a full-size puppet theatre.

Protecting the Park's Nature

Sometimes, new plants or animals can cause problems in a park.

Dealing with Invasive Species

The main lake in Langan Park has some invasive species. These are plants or animals that are not native to the area. They can harm the local environment. Two examples found here are the channeled applesnail and tilapia fish. Both of these can damage the native plants in the water. Biologists think the snails might have been put into the lake from home aquariums. In 2009, these snails were found in Three Mile Creek, which flows from the lake. This means they could spread to the entire Mobile–Tensaw River Delta, which is a very important natural area.
