Lappajärvi is a small town, also known as a municipality, in Finland. It's located in the Southern Ostrobothnia region.
Lappajärvi is about 78 kilometers (48 miles) from Seinäjoki, 80 kilometers (50 miles) from Kokkola, and 117 kilometers (73 miles) from Vaasa. As of 31 December 2023, around 2,789 people live in Lappajärvi.
The total area of Lappajärvi is 522.98 square kilometres (201.92 sq mi). A large part of this area, 102.89 km2 (39.73 sq mi), is covered by water! Lake Lappajärvi: A Meteor Crater!
Lappajärvi is named after a very special lake, Lake Lappajärvi. This lake was actually formed by a meteor hitting the Earth a very long time ago! It's one of the few lakes in Finland created this way. Imagine a giant space rock crashing down and making a huge hole that later filled with water!

Lappajärvi is the birthplace of some interesting people. For example, Timo Kotipelto, a famous singer, was born and grew up here. He is known for being the lead singer of Stratovarius, a worldwide popular Finnish power metal band.
