Las Piedras barrio-pueblo is a special part of Las Piedras, a town in Puerto Rico. It is like the main downtown area where the local government is located. In 2010, about 1,500 people lived here.

In Puerto Rico, towns often have a central area called a pueblo. This area usually includes a main plaza, government buildings like the city hall, and a Catholic church. Every year, special celebrations called Fiestas patronales (patron saint festivals) are held in the central plaza.

The Central Plaza and Its Church

The central plaza, or town square, is a lively spot for fun events and a place where people can meet and hang out from morning until night. Old Spanish laws from the early 1800s said that these plazas should be big enough for celebrations. They also said that the streets nearby should have comfortable walkways to protect people from the sun and rain.

Right across from the central plaza in Las Piedras barrio-pueblo, you'll find the Parroquia Inmaculada Concepción. This is a Roman Catholic church.

History of Las Piedras Pueblo

Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States after the Spanish–American War. This happened because of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. In 1899, the United States government counted the people living in Puerto Rico. They found that the population of Pueblo (Las Piedras barrio-pueblo) and a nearby area called Quebrada Arenas was 1,449 people. By 2010, the population of Las Piedras barrio-pueblo was 1,500.
