Laser Arena is a fun first-person shooter (FPS) game for your PC. It lets you experience the excitement of laser tag right on your screen! In this game, you'll battle other players using laser guns. You can play in different ways, like "Free for All" or "Team Match." If you get hit three times, you're out for a moment, then you can jump back into the action!

What is Laser Arena?

Laser Arena is a video game released in 2000. It was made to feel like you are playing real-life laser tag. The game uses a special version of the Quake engine. This is a powerful tool that helps create the game's world. Even though it was a budget game, it had some cool features.

How to Play

In Laser Arena, you play as a character with a laser gun. Your goal is to hit other players with your laser. Each player starts with three "health canisters." When you get hit, one canister disappears. If all three are gone, you are "dead" for a short time. After a small delay, you will "respawn" and can rejoin the game.

Game Modes

The game offers several exciting ways to play.

  • Free for All: This is like a "Deathmatch" where every player fights for themselves. The goal is to get the most hits.
  • Team Match: Players are split into teams. Your team works together to defeat the other team.
  • Duel: This mode is a one-on-one battle between two players.
  • Domination: In this mode, players try to control certain areas of the arena.
  • Mega Target: This is a unique game mode. You need to hit three special targets first. After that, you can enter a "core" area. Inside the core, you shoot a final target to score a point for your team.

Special Features and Power-Ups

Laser Arena has some cool items to help you. One special item is the "Lasertag Grenade." When you throw it, it shoots many laser blasts in all directions. This can hit many players nearby at once.

The game does not have different types of laser guns. Instead, you can find "power-ups" during the game. These power-ups give you special abilities for a short time. Some power-ups make your laser shoot faster. Others make your laser hits stronger. A stronger hit might take away two health canisters instead of just one!

Automated Turrets

In the "Mega Target" mode, you will find automated defense turrets. These turrets shoot at enemy players. You can even make some turrets fight for your team! To do this, you shoot a sensor above the turret. This turns off the turret for a few seconds. If it's a special kind of turret, it will then start shooting for your side. It will keep helping your team until an enemy player changes it back.

Game Technology

Laser Arena uses a graphics engine that supports different display modes. These include Glide, OpenGL, and software rendering. This means the game could run on different types of computers.

The game supports multiplayer fun for up to 8 players. You can play against other people or against computer-controlled "bots." Players can connect through a LAN (Local Area Network) or using GameSpy. Even though the game did not officially support it, players could create their own changes, called "mods." One mod called "LaserArena Enhanced" made the game look and sound better. It also added useful keyboard shortcuts that were not in the original game.
