Lattimer is a small village located in Hazle Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is also known as a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's a special area defined by the U.S. Census Bureau for gathering population data. In 2010, about 554 people lived there. By 2020, the population grew slightly to 567 residents.

History of Lattimer
The Lattimer Massacre of 1897
Lattimer is known for an important event in American labor history called the Lattimer massacre. This event happened on September 10, 1897. It involved a group of unarmed striking coal miners. These miners were mostly immigrants from countries like Poland, Slovakia, Lithuania, and Germany. They were protesting for better working conditions and pay.
During their protest, a group led by the Luzerne County sheriff confronted them. Sadly, the sheriff's group opened fire on the miners. At least 19 miners were killed, and many more were hurt. This tragic event became a major turning point for the United Mine Workers (UMW) union. It helped to bring attention to the struggles of workers and the need for stronger protections for them.
