Laura Main (born March 8, 1977) is a talented Scottish actress. She is best known for her role as Sister Bernadette and later Nurse Shelagh Turner in the popular BBC One TV show Call the Midwife.

Early Life and School Days
Laura Main was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. Her dad, Robert, worked as a fish merchant. Her mom, Lorna, was a primary school teacher who later became a housewife. Laura has two older sisters, a niece, and two nephews.
Laura went to Hazlehead Academy for school. She also took dance lessons at Danscentre in Aberdeen. After school, she studied history at the University of Aberdeen. She earned a degree in History of Art in 1998. Then, she went to drama school in London at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art.
Acting Career
Laura Main started acting in musicals when she was just 13 years old. Her first big role was playing Annie in Annie with Phoenix Youth Theatre. At 15, she played Louisa von Trapp in a stage show of The Sound of Music. While at university, she performed with a musical group called Treading the Boards.
She has also performed on stage with the famous Royal Shakespeare Company. In 2011, she appeared in the musical Company.
Call the Midwife
In 2011, Laura was chosen to play Sister Bernadette in the hit BBC series Call the Midwife. Her character later became Nurse Shelagh Turner. She also sang as a soloist on several songs for the Call the Midwife album, which came out in 2013.
Other Performances
In November 2015, Laura Main won the Children in Need Strictly Come Dancing special. She danced with professional dancer Brendan Cole.
In 2017, Laura played the main role of Princess Fiona in the UK tour of Shrek The Musical. She shared this role with Amelia Lily, a singer from The X Factor. Laura's first show as Princess Fiona was in December 2017.
In January 2023, Laura starred as M'Lynn in a play called Steel Magnolias. This play toured around the UK. In February 2024, she also appeared in a new play called One Last Push.
