Laura Main was born on March 8, 1981. She is a Scottish actress. Many people know her for playing Sister Bernadette and later Nurse Shelagh Turner. These roles are in the popular BBC One TV show Call the Midwife.
Early Life and School
Laura Main was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. Her dad, Robert, worked with fish. Her mom, Lorna, was a teacher who later stayed home. Laura has two older sisters. She also has a niece and two nephews.
Laura went to school at Hazlehead Academy. She also took dance classes in Aberdeen. After that, she studied history at the University of Aberdeen. Later, she went to drama school in London. This was at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art.
Her Acting Career
Laura started acting in musicals when she was 13. Her first big role was playing Annie in a play. At 15, she played Louisa von Trapp in The Sound of Music. While at university, she performed with a musical group. She has also acted in plays with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
In 2011, Laura got a role in the hit BBC show Call the Midwife. She plays Sister Bernadette, who later becomes Nurse Shelagh Turner. Laura also sings on the Call the Midwife music album. In 2015, she won the Children in Need Strictly Come Dancing special. She danced with Brendan Cole.
In 2017, Laura played Princess Fiona. This was in the musical Shrek The Musical. She shared the role with Amelia Lily. Laura's first show was in Edinburgh.
In 2023, Laura acted in the play Steel Magnolias. She played the character M'Lynn. The play toured around the UK. In 2024, she was set to star in a new play called One Last Push.
