When he was 18, Brendan moved to the United Kingdom. There, he learned more about different dance styles. These included pasodoble, ballroom, and ballet. Before dancing full-time, he worked as a builder and roof layer. He left school at 17.
Brendan danced with Camilla Dallerup for many years. They danced together as amateurs from 1996 to 1999. Then, they danced professionally from 2002 to 2004.
