History of Laura Secord
How Laura Secord Started
Laura Secord was founded in 1913 by a person named Frank P. O'Connor. He opened the very first store in Toronto, Ontario, on Yonge Street.
Frank O'Connor decided to name his company after a famous Canadian hero, Laura Secord. She was a brave woman who lived in 1813. Laura Secord went on a long and dangerous journey to warn a British officer, Lieutenant James FitzGibbon, about a surprise attack planned by American soldiers. Her warning helped the British win an important battle called the Battle of Beaver Dams.
Who Has Owned Laura Secord?
Over the years, Laura Secord has been owned by several different companies.
- In 1969, the O'Connor family sold Laura Secord to a company called John Labatt Limited.
- Then, in 1983, a British company named Rowntree Mackintosh Confectionery bought it.
- Later, in 1998, Nestlé's Canadian part sold Laura Secord to Archibald Candy Corporation from Chicago.
