Laurie Rohan Williams (born 12 December 1968 – died 8 September 2002) was a talented cricketer from the West Indies. He played for the West Indies national team and also for his home team, Jamaica. Laurie was known for his skills as both a bowler and a batter. Sadly, his promising career ended when he passed away in 2002 at the age of 33.

Early Career and Bowling Style

Laurie Williams started his professional cricket journey in February 1990. He made his first-class debut for Jamaica. First-class cricket is a high level of the sport, usually played over several days.

When he bowled, Laurie was a medium-pace bowler. This means he didn't bowl super fast. Instead, he focused on making the ball move in the air (swing) and off the pitch (seam). This made it tricky for batters to hit his deliveries.

Batting Skills

Even though he was a bowler, Laurie was also very good with the bat. He scored three centuries (meaning he hit 100 runs or more in a single innings) in first-class matches. His highest score was an impressive 135 runs for Jamaica against the Windward Islands.

This great batting performance helped him become the second-highest run-scorer in the 1999–2000 Busta Cup tournament. This showed he was a valuable all-rounder, good at both bowling and batting.

International Matches

Laurie Williams played 15 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for the West Indies. ODIs are a shorter, more exciting form of cricket where each team bats for a limited number of overs.

Many of his international matches were played during the 2000–01 Carlton Series in Australia. One of his best bowling performances in an ODI was when he took three wickets for only 16 runs against New Zealand. This happened in just his second international match, showing his talent early on.

Career Highlights

By the time he passed away, Laurie Williams had played 58 first-class matches. He scored a total of 2,002 runs and took 170 wickets. His best bowling figures in a first-class match were six wickets for just 26 runs, which he achieved in the 1996–97 season. He was a dedicated player who contributed a lot to his teams.
