Lawrence Cager (born August 20, 1997) is an American professional football player. He plays as a tight end for the Washington Commanders in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Miami Hurricanes and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Growing Up and High School Football
Lawrence Cager grew up in Towson, Maryland. He went to Calvert Hall College High School. There, he was a star player on the high school football team. Experts even rated him as a top prospect.
College Football Journey
Lawrence started his college football career playing for the Miami (FL) team. He played there for three seasons. During his time at Miami, he caught 45 passes for 681 yards. He also scored 10 touchdowns.
Later, he transferred to the Georgia team for his final year of college. In that one season at Georgia, he caught 33 passes. He gained 476 yards and scored 4 touchdowns.

After college, Lawrence Cager wasn't picked in the 2020 NFL draft. But he still got a chance to play professionally. He signed with the New York Jets in May 2020. This meant he joined the team as an undrafted free agent.
Playing for the New York Jets (First Time)
Lawrence started with the Jets on their practice squad. This is a group of players who train with the team but aren't on the main roster. He got to play in his first NFL game in September 2020. He caught two passes for 35 yards in that game. He was moved between the main team and the practice squad a few times. He even had a hamstring injury that year.
Time with the Cleveland Browns
In October 2021, Lawrence joined the Cleveland Browns practice squad. He was later moved up to their main team roster. He played for the Browns for a short period before being waived.
Back to the New York Jets
Lawrence signed with the Jets again in January 2022. This time, he changed his position to tight end. He stayed with the Jets until October 2022.
Playing for the New York Giants
In October 2022, Lawrence joined the New York Giants practice squad. He was called up to play in a few games. In one game against the Houston Texans, he scored his first ever NFL touchdown! That was a big moment for him. He was later promoted to the Giants' main roster.
He continued to play for the Giants in 2023 and 2024. He was sometimes on the practice squad and sometimes on the main team. In late 2023, he was placed on injured reserve.
Joining the Washington Commanders
Lawrence Cager signed a contract with the Washington Commanders in January 2025. He is now part of their team.
