The 2016 presidential campaign of Lawrence Lessig was his effort to become the President of the United States. Lessig, a Harvard University professor from Massachusetts, officially announced he was running on September 6, 2015. He wanted to win the Democratic Party's chance to be their candidate for president in the 2016 election. His campaign's main office was in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Why Lawrence Lessig Ran for President
Before officially running, Lessig thought about joining the race. He formed a special group called an exploratory committee. This group helped him decide if he should try to get the Democratic Party's nomination for president in 2016.
Lessig's campaign lasted for about two months. He hoped to get enough support to be part of the important TV debates where candidates talk about their ideas. However, his poll numbers, which show how much support a candidate has, were not high enough. Because of this, he did not qualify to join the debates. Lessig decided to stop his campaign on November 2, 2015.
