Lawrence Virgil, born on January 20, 1991, is a former American football player. He played as a defensive tackle, a position where players try to stop the other team's offense. Lawrence played college football at Valdosta State University and went to Brooks County High School in Quitman, Georgia. He was part of the New Orleans Saints, a team in the National Football League (NFL). Sadly, his NFL career ended because of a serious injury to his left knee.
Growing Up and Playing Football
Lawrence Virgil loved football from a young age. He played high school football for the Brooks County High School Trojans. He helped his team have a great season, winning 9 games and losing only 3. They even made it to the state tournament.
After high school, Lawrence continued his football journey. He played for the Valdosta State Blazers from 2010 to 2013. During his time there, he helped his college team win the NCAA Division II national championship in 2012. This was a huge achievement for him and his team!
Playing in the NFL
After college, Lawrence Virgil hoped to play in the National Football League (NFL). Even though he wasn't chosen in the 2014 NFL draft, he still got a chance. On May 12, 2014, he signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints.
He worked hard, but the Saints released him on August 30, 2014. However, he didn't give up! He was then signed to the team's practice squad a few days later. This meant he could practice with the team and get ready for a chance to play.
Lawrence's hard work paid off. On November 27, 2014, he was moved to the Saints' main team roster. This meant he could now play in real NFL games!
His first NFL game was on December 28, 2014, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It was an exciting moment for him.
Injury and Retirement
In 2015, Lawrence faced a big challenge. On August 17, he was waived by the Saints due to an injury. The next day, he was placed on the team's injured reserve list. This meant he couldn't play for a while as he recovered.
He was taken off the injured reserve list on February 8, 2016. He became a free agent, meaning he could sign with any team. On June 18, 2016, he signed with the New Orleans Saints again.
However, his knee injury was very serious. On August 3, 2016, the Saints released him because of his ongoing knee problems. This injury, which involved tearing his ACL, MCL, and meniscus, unfortunately ended his professional football career.
