Early Life and Education
Layal Abboud grew up in a big Muslim family in the village of Kanisah, Lebanon. Her parents, Mounir and Maryam, had many children. Layal loved singing and dancing from a young age. She was a big fan of the Egyptian pop singer Amr Diab. Her father supported her talent and bought her a violin when she was six.
When she was 14, Layal started working as a private tutor, helping over 13 students. She went on to study English literature and translation at university, earning a master's degree. She also studied music at the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory for two years. Before her music career, Layal worked as a police officer for two years. She was part of the Lebanese Police Force, working in security at the Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport.
Musical Journey
Layal Abboud first appeared on television in the popular show Studio El-Fan during its 2001–02 season. She performed in many cafés and restaurants in Beirut. This helped her meet other musicians like Richard Najm and Salim Salameh. Layal then studied music with Richard Najm. By 2006, she became skilled at playing several instruments, including the oud, organ, and guitar.
Her first album, Fi Shouq (meaning On Longing), was released in late 2007. Layal has said that "Music is my life!" She looks up to famous musicians like Ammar El Sherei and Sabah. Layal also enjoys French music, saying she is a "hopeless romantic." Besides singing, Layal is also a poet and composer. However, she focuses on her singing career, as advised by her manager.
Fashion and Business
Layal Abboud works closely with fashion designer Akel Fakih. She trusts his ideas for her outfits, whether for performances or daily life. Akel Fakih has said they have a special connection when it comes to fashion. Layal also has a team for her look, including Elie Samaan for hair and makeup, Serene Assaad as her stylist, and Hussein Salman as her photographer.
In 2017, Layal Abboud also appeared as a fashion model for Akl Fakih at an event in Beirut. She is also the founder of Loulou Secret, a wedding planning company based in Amman. Additionally, she runs Layal Productions, which manages her music career.
Media and Public Image
Layal Abboud believes that sometimes the media treats her unfairly. She has said that she is a "normal artist" who keeps up with fashion. In 2016, some fake pictures were spread online that looked like her. Layal took legal action against those who created and shared these false images. A suspect was later arrested in connection with this.
In 2017, Layal spoke out against a magazine that showed her picture with a misleading headline. She felt the magazine was trying to get more readers by simplifying and misinterpreting her words. She has also criticized some music journalists for their negative writing.
