Lazar Miller Hayward, born on November 26, 1986, is an American former professional basketball player. He was a fantastic college player for the Marquette Golden Eagles team.

Lazar Hayward's Early Basketball Journey

Lazar Hayward started his basketball journey at Buffalo Traditional High School. He was a really good player there. After graduating in 2004, he went to Notre Dame Prep School. This was because only one smaller college, SUNY Fredonia, showed interest in him.

Playing at Notre Dame Prep School

At Notre Dame Prep School, Lazar played alongside many other talented players. Some of these included Michael Beasley and Paul Harris. Hayward was a starter during his first two years there. Experts at Rivals.com thought he was a top player. They ranked him as the 18th best small forward in the nation in 2006.

College Basketball Success at Marquette

When Lazar Hayward played for Marquette University, his teammates gave him a cool nickname: "Money Man." He became one of the best players in Marquette's history. He finished as the 3rd highest scorer and 5th best rebounder ever for the team.

Awards and Achievements in College

Lazar earned "Second-Team All-Big East" honors twice, in 2008 and 2010. In 2010, he also received "Honorable Mention AP All-American" status. He helped lead Marquette to play in the NCAA Tournament four times. On April 2, 2010, he was named the "Hershey's Player of the Game" in the Reese's College All-Star Game.

Lazar Hayward's Professional Career

Lazar Hayward played professional basketball for several teams. He started in the NBA, the top basketball league in the world.

Starting with the Minnesota Timberwolves (2010–2011)

On June 25, 2010, the Washington Wizards picked Lazar Hayward in the 2010 NBA draft. He was the 30th player chosen. But soon after, his draft rights were traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. It's interesting that his college teammate, Jimmy Butler, was picked at the same spot in the next year's draft. In his first NBA season, Lazar played about 10 minutes per game and scored 3.8 points on average for the Timberwolves.

Moving to the Oklahoma City Thunder (2011–2012)

Before the next season started, on December 13, 2011, Lazar was traded. He went to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for two future draft picks and another player.

The Thunder sometimes sent Lazar to play for their minor league team, the Tulsa 66ers. This happened on March 2, 2012. He played really well there, scoring 28 points per game in two games. Because of this, the Thunder called him back to the main team just two days later. That season, he averaged 1.4 points per game with the Thunder. Lazar and the Thunder team made it all the way to the 2012 NBA Finals, but they lost to the Miami Heat.

Back with the Minnesota Timberwolves (2012–2013)

On October 27, 2012, Lazar was traded again, this time to the Houston Rockets. However, the Rockets decided not to keep him. On December 31, 2012, Lazar signed again with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was released a few days later, but then signed another short contract with them.

Playing for the Los Angeles D-Fenders (2013; 2016)

After his contract with the Timberwolves ended, Lazar joined the Los Angeles D-Fenders. This team was part of the NBA Development League, which is now called the G League. He had to leave the team on April 4, 2013, because of an injury. In September 2013, he signed with the New Orleans Pelicans, but they also released him later that year. Lazar returned to play for the Los Angeles D-Fenders again on January 29, 2016.

Time with the Long Island Nets (2016–2017)

On November 1, 2016, Lazar joined the Long Island Nets, another G League team. He played 20 games for them. In those games, he averaged 12.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.4 steals in about 24 minutes per game. The Nets released him on February 8, 2017.

Playing in Venezuela with Guaros de Lara (2017)

After leaving the G League, Lazar Hayward signed with Guaros de Lara. This is a professional basketball team in Venezuela, playing in the LPB league. He joined them on February 11, 2017.
