Lazbuddie, Texas facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Lazbuddie is a small, unincorporated community located in Parmer County, Texas, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government.

What's in a Name? The Story of Lazbuddie

The name "Lazbuddie" is quite unique! It comes from two local business owners who helped start the community. In 1924, a man named Luther "Laz" Green and his partner, Andrew "Buddie" Sherley, opened a store there. The community grew up around their store, and people started calling the place "Lazbuddie" after them.

Growing Up: Post Office and School

As more people moved to the area, Lazbuddie started to grow. A post office was set up, making it easier for people to send and receive mail. A school was also built, which was very important for the children living in the surrounding farms and rural areas.

Lazbuddie Today: Community Life

Today, Lazbuddie is still a small but active community. It has important facilities that help the local farmers and residents. You can find two cotton gins, which are machines that separate cotton fibers from their seeds. There's also a grain elevator, used for storing large amounts of grain like wheat or corn. A hardware store helps people get supplies for their homes and farms, and several churches serve as gathering places.

Education at Lazbuddie ISD

The main focus of the community is the Lazbuddie Independent School District. This school district educates children from Lazbuddie and the nearby rural areas. Students at Lazbuddie High School play Six-man football, which is a fun and fast-paced version of American football played with fewer players on each team.

Lazbuddie and Tornadoes

On May 10, 1991, Lazbuddie experienced a memorable weather event. Three tornadoes touched down in the area. Farmers in the community were able to film this event, capturing the powerful storms on camera.
