The Leaning Pine Arboretum is a special outdoor garden located at California Polytechnic State University (often called Cal Poly SLO) in San Luis Obispo, California. It's a big, beautiful space covering about 5 acres (20,000 square meters) where you can explore many different kinds of plants. It's like a living museum for trees, shrubs, and flowers!

Exploring the Plant Collections

The Leaning Pine Arboretum is home to hundreds of unique and interesting plants. The plants are grouped together based on where they naturally grow in the world. This helps you see how different plants from similar climates look and grow.

Plants from Mediterranean Climates

A big part of the arboretum features plants from places with a "Mediterranean climate." This means areas that have hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. There are five main regions in the world with this type of climate:

• Australia
• California (where the arboretum is!)
• Chile
• The Mediterranean region (like parts of Europe, Africa, and Asia)
• South Africa

Other Unique Gardens

Besides the Mediterranean collections, the arboretum has several other cool areas to explore:

• A "Dwarf and Unusual Conifer" garden, which has smaller, unique evergreen trees.
• A "Formal Garden" with a more structured design.

Visiting the Arboretum

The Leaning Pine Arboretum is a wonderful place for everyone to visit and learn about plants. It's open all year round, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The best part is, there's no fee to get in!
