Leanne Pittsford grew up in San Diego, California. She came from a family with traditional views. She shared her identity as a lesbian later, towards the end of her college years.

Pittsford attended California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. There, she earned a bachelor's degree in political science. She then continued her studies at San Francisco State University. She received a master's degree focusing on fairness and social justice in education.

Career Highlights

Pittsford started her career working for Equality California. This group works for the rights of LGBTQ people. At that time, they were trying to change a law in California. This law, called Proposition 8, had stopped same-sex marriage in 2008. Pittsford became the head of operations for the organization.

Founding New Programs

Leanne Pittsford helped create the Lesbian Entrepreneur Mentoring Program. This program helped women who were starting their own businesses. She also founded and led Start Somewhere. This was a digital company that helped non-profit groups and social businesses.

Creating Lesbians Who Tech
