Ledo d.d. is a company from Croatia that makes delicious ice cream and frozen food. Its main office is in Zagreb.
About Ledo
Ledo is one of the biggest makers of frozen food and ice cream in Southeastern Europe. This means they sell their products in many countries. Besides Croatia, you can find Ledo products in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Albania, Montenegro, and Hungary.
In 2008, Ledo earned a lot of money from its sales, about 1.19 billion Croatian Kuna. This was a big jump from the year before! Most of this money came from sales inside Croatia, but sales in other countries also grew a lot.
A Sweet History
The very first ice cream made in Croatia was called Snjeguljica, which means Snow White. It was introduced in 1958. Back then, the company that would become Ledo was actually part of a bigger company that produced milk.
Award-Winning Ice Cream
Ledo makes many different kinds of ice cream. In 2013, one of their ice creams, called Ledo Torta, won a special award. It was named the best in the world at a big meeting for ice cream and frozen food makers!
A Big Sale
For a while, Ledo was partly owned by a large company called the Agrokor group. This group later changed its name to Fortenova Group in 2018.
In early 2021, the Fortenova Group announced they were planning to sell their frozen food business. This included Ledo in Croatia, Ledo Čitluk in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and another company called Frikom in Serbia. They talked with a company from the United Kingdom called Nomad Foods.
By March 2021, the sale was agreed upon. Nomad Foods bought these companies for a lot of money, about 615 million Euros! The sale was fully finished later in 2021.
