Lee Ju-ho (Hangul: 이주호; born on February 17, 1961) is an important South Korean economist. Since May 2025, he has been serving as the acting president of South Korea and acting prime minister of South Korea. He has also been the deputy prime minister and education minister since 2022.
Mr. Lee is a professor at the KDI School of Public Policy and Management. As of May 1, 2025, due to changes in leadership, Lee took on several big roles at once. He became the acting President of South Korea, acting Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Education.

Early Life and Education
Lee Ju-ho was born in Chilgok County, North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. This was on February 17, 1961.
He studied economics and earned three degrees. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Seoul National University. Later, he earned his doctorate (PhD) from Cornell University in the United States.
Public Service Career
Before entering politics, Lee Ju-ho was a professor at the Korea Development Institute. In 2004, he became a member of the 17th National Assembly. This is like being a representative in the country's parliament.
Roles in Government
In January 2009, he served as the First Vice Minister of Education, Science and Technology. This was during the Lee Myung-bak government. He then became the full Minister in 2010 and held that role until 2013.
He was appointed as Minister of Education again in 2022. This time, it was in the Yoon Suk Yeol government.
Key Education Initiatives
As Minister, Lee Ju-ho led several important changes in education. He started the Neulbom School program. This program offered free after-school care for young elementary students.
He also worked to increase the number of students allowed into medical schools. This was an effort to add 2,000 more seats. He also supported using digital textbooks in schools. These included new textbooks based on artificial intelligence.
Acting President and Prime Minister
On May 2, 2025, Lee Ju-ho took on the roles of acting president and acting prime minister. This happened after the previous acting leaders stepped down.
As acting president, Lee focused on ensuring the country's safety. He asked the military to be very prepared. He also called for careful plans for the presidential election on June 3. He wanted to make sure the election would be fair and orderly.
Lee also told all public servants to work with strict discipline. He reminded them to stay politically neutral. This was important with the presidential election coming up.
