Lee Philips was born in New York City. He started his acting journey on Broadway, which is famous for its live theater shows.
Early Acting Roles
One of his most important acting roles was as Michael Rossi in the movie Peyton Place (1957). In this film, he acted alongside the famous actress Lana Turner. He also appeared in the movie Middle of the Night (1959). In this film, he played George, the ex-husband of a character played by Kim Novak.
In 1960, Lee Philips played Lieutenant Wood in an episode called "The White Healer." This was part of a TV show called Death Valley Days.
Shifting to Directing
Later in the 1960s, Lee Philips started to focus more on directing. He directed episodes for many popular TV shows. These included the TV series version of Peyton Place. He also directed episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show, a very popular comedy series.
Guest Appearances on TV
Even though he was directing more, Lee Philips still acted sometimes. In 1963, he appeared in a two-part episode of The Fugitive called "Never Wave Goodbye." He also guest-starred in the first episode of The Outer Limits, which was a science fiction show.
He played a main role in an episode of The Twilight Zone in 1963. The episode was called "Passage on the Lady Anne." He returned to The Twilight Zone the next year in an episode called "Queen of the Nile." In 1964, he also appeared in the TV show Flipper.
In 1965, Lee Philips made two guest appearances on the detective show Perry Mason. He also directed Dick Van Dyke in several episodes of the TV show Diagnosis: Murder. In 1973, he directed a movie called The Girl Most Likely to..., which starred Stockard Channing.
