Lee Ernest Suggs Jr. was born on August 11, 1980. He is a former American professional football player. Lee was a talented running back in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Cleveland Browns picked him in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL draft. He also played for the Miami Dolphins.

Early Life and High School Football

Lee Suggs grew up and went to high school in Roanoke, Virginia. He attended William Fleming High School. During his senior year in 1998, Lee was an amazing player. He ran for 2,918 yards and scored 30 touchdowns. This was a huge achievement in his high school career. Scouts ranked him as one of the best running backs in the country.

College Football Achievements

Lee Suggs played college football at Virginia Tech. He set some incredible records there that he still holds today.

Setting Touchdown Records

Lee holds the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) record for scoring a touchdown in the most games in a single season. He scored in 14 games during the 2002 season. He also holds the record for scoring a touchdown in the most games in a row. He scored in 27 straight games from September 2, 2000, to December 31, 2002. During this time, he scored 54 touchdowns!

Virginia Tech School Records

Lee also holds school records for rushing touchdowns. He scored 27 rushing touchdowns in one season. In his entire college career, he scored 53 rushing touchdowns. Because of his amazing accomplishments, Lee Suggs was honored. He earned a spot in the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame.

Professional Football Career

After his successful college career, Lee Suggs joined the NFL.

Playing for the Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns chose Lee Suggs in the 2003 NFL Draft. He was the 115th player picked overall. In his first season, during Week 17 of 2003, Lee had a fantastic game. He ran for 186 yards and scored two touchdowns against the Cincinnati Bengals. One of his touchdown runs was 78 yards long! This helped the Browns win 22–14.

In 2004, Lee had his best year as a professional player. He gained 922 yards in only 10 games. However, he faced some challenges. He couldn't play a full season because of injuries. The team also acquired another running back, Reuben Droughns. In 2006, the Browns traded Lee to the New York Jets. But the trade didn't happen because Lee failed his physical exam. He then returned to the Browns but was later released.

Time with the Miami Dolphins

On September 3, 2006, the Miami Dolphins picked up Lee Suggs. However, his time with the Dolphins was short. He was released by the team on October 10, 2006.

Coaching Career

After his playing career, Lee Suggs became a football coach. He started coaching running backs at Oberlin College in 2008. Later, he coached running backs at the Catholic University of America. His time coaching there ended before the 2021 season.
