Leetown, also known as Lee Town, was once a historic village in Benton County, Arkansas, USA. It is famous because the first day of the important Battle of Pea Ridge during the American Civil War was fought right around this area.
History of Leetown
Leetown was founded in the 1840s. A farmer named John W. Lee, who came from Tennessee, started the village. We do not know much about Leetown before the American Civil War began.
Leetown's Role in the Civil War
Leetown became very important during the Battle of Pea Ridge. This battle was a major event in the Civil War. The village served as a field hospital for the U.S. Army. This means many of its buildings were used to care for injured soldiers.
Almost every building in Leetown was turned into a hospital during the battle. Today, none of the original buildings from that time are still standing. However, some old fences have been rebuilt. Historic roads have also been fixed up. There is even a project to plant new trees in the area.
