Leila Rajabi was born Tatyana Ilyushchanka on April 18, 1983. She is a talented athlete who competes in the sport of shot put. Leila was born in Vitebsk, which was part of the Soviet Union (now Belarus).

Later, Leila married an Iranian athlete named Peiman Rajabi. She decided to become an Iranian citizen and changed her name to Leila Rajabi. She also chose to represent Iran in sports instead of her home country, Belarus. Right away, Leila broke the Iranian national record in shot put! She improved the record by about 3 meters and still holds it today.

Early Career with Belarus

Before joining Iran's team, Leila competed for Belarus. In 2002, she placed 5th at the World Junior Championships. She also earned a silver medal at the European Cup First League in 2005.

Representing Iran and Breaking Records

After 2007, Leila began competing for Iran. This is when she really started to shine!

Gold Medals for Iran

Leila won several gold medals for Iran:

  • In 2009, she won gold at the Asian Indoor Games in Vietnam.
  • In 2010, she took home gold at the Asian Indoor Championships held in Tehran, Iran.
  • Also in 2010, she won gold at the West Asian Championships in Syria.
  • In 2012, she won two gold medals at the West Asian Championships in Dubai, for both shot put and discus throw.
  • In 2013, she earned another gold at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Indonesia.

  • She earned a bronze medal at the Asian Championships in China.
  • In 2011, she won another bronze at the Asian Championships in Japan.
  • She secured a silver medal at the Asian Indoor Championships in China.
  • In 2013, she won a silver medal at the Asian Championships in India. This is where she set her personal best record of 18.18 meters, which is also the Iranian national record!
  • In 2014, she won a silver medal at the important Asian Games in South Korea.
