What Was the Leith Constituency?
A constituency is like a special voting district. People living in that area vote for one person to represent them in Parliament. The Leith constituency was created in 1918. It covered the town of Leith, which was then in the county of Midlothian, Scotland.
This voting area was used for several general elections. These included elections in 1918, 1922, 1923, 1924, 1929, 1931, 1935, and 1945.
In 1920, the town of Leith became part of the City of Edinburgh. Because of this change, the Leith constituency was updated in 1950. It became part of the new Edinburgh Leith constituency. This new area also included parts of Edinburgh and the town of Musselburgh.
Who Represented Leith?
A Member of Parliament (MP) is a person elected by voters to represent them in the House of Commons. MPs discuss laws and important issues for the country. The Leith constituency had three different MPs during its time.
