Lemonade fruit is a special kind of citrus fruit. It is also known as Lemonade lemon, New Zealand lemonade, or Unlemon. People believe it is a mix, or hybrid, of a mandarin orange and a lemon.
This unique fruit was first found in New Zealand in the 1980s. It grew by chance from a seed, meaning no one planted it on purpose. It grows best in the warmer parts of New Zealand. You can also find lemonade fruit growing widely in Australia. In the United States, it is grown in the Central Valley of California and Florida.
What Does Lemonade Fruit Look Like?
The lemonade fruit looks a lot like a lemon. However, it is round instead of oval-shaped. It usually measures between 7 and 10 centimeters across. The skin is smooth and yellow when the fruit is ripe. You can even peel it by hand, just like an orange!
Inside, the fruit has a taste similar to a lemon, but it is much sweeter. It still has a little bit of sourness, which makes it refreshing. It usually has 9 to 11 sections inside. You will find very few, or sometimes no, seeds in a lemonade fruit.
