Lena was named by two people: C. E. Hinton and J. S. Vinson. C. E. Hinton was also the very first postmaster for Lena. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office. They decided on the name for this small community.
The Old Post Office
Lena used to have its own post office. It opened a long time ago, on June 11, 1873. For many years, people in Lena could send and receive their mail right there. However, the post office eventually closed its doors on August 31, 1942. Today, if you live in Lena, your mail is handled by the post office in a nearby town called Heppner.
