Leonard Gordon Wolfson, Baron Wolfson (born November 11, 1927 – died May 20, 2010) was an important British businessman. He was the former chairman of a large retail company called GUS. He was also the son of another famous businessman, Sir Isaac Wolfson.

He went to The King's School, Worcester from 1942 to 1945.

About Lord Wolfson

Leonard Wolfson was given the title of a Knight in 1977. This is an honor given by the King or Queen. Later, in 1985, he became a Life Peer. This means he was given the title of Baron Wolfson and became a member of the House of Lords. The House of Lords is part of the UK Parliament, where laws are discussed. He was a member of the Conservative Party, one of the main political groups in the UK.

When his father passed away in 1991, Lord Wolfson also inherited the title of 2nd Baronet. This is another type of inherited honor. He took a break from the House of Lords in 2008.

His Work and Honors

Lord Wolfson was the Chairman of the Wolfson Foundation. This foundation is a charity that supports science, health, education, and the arts. He was also given special honors by important groups. In 1986, he became an Honorary Fellow of the British Academy. In 2005, he became an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society. These are groups that recognize important people in science and learning.

He was also an Honorary Fellow at three colleges at Oxford University. These were Wolfson College (which was named after his father), St Catherine's College, and Worcester College.

Giving Back: Philanthropy

Lord Wolfson was known for being a philanthropist. This means he gave a lot of money and support to good causes. He was the president of the Jewish Welfare Board, which helps people in the Jewish community. He was also a trustee of the Imperial War Museum. A trustee helps manage an organization.

After he passed away, a new charity was started in 2012. It was called The Lord Leonard and Lady Estelle Wolfson Foundation. This foundation continues his work. It supports important research in science and medicine. It also helps with education and the arts.
