Leonese Language Day (Día de la Llingua Llïonesa) is a special celebration that honors the Leonese language. This important day began in the city of Llión, in the province of Llión, Spain. It started because of an agreement between the Leonese Provincial Government and a group called the Cultural Association for Leonese Language El Fueyu. Today, the Llión City Council helps to organize this celebration.

During Leonese Language Day, you can enjoy many fun activities. There are often performances of traditional Leonese music. You can also see new books and films that are all about the Leonese language. It's a great way to learn more about this unique language and its culture!

First Leonese Language Day

The very first Leonese Language Day happened on June 10, 2006. It was organized by the Asociación Cultural de la Llingua Llïonesa El Fueyu. They had help from other groups like the Asociación Berciana en Defensa de la Llingua Llïonesa El Toralín, La Barda (a Leonese language group from Salamanca), and Pro Monumenta.

At this first event, there were performances of traditional Leonese music. A book written in Leonese, called "Cuentos del Sil", was also presented. Many important people from the world of Leonese culture, universities, and government joined young students of the Leonese language to read poems aloud. The Leonese Provincial Government also supported this special day.

Second Leonese Language Day

The second Leonese Language Day was celebrated on December 16, 2007. This time, the Leonese City Council organized the event, with help from several other groups.

During the celebration, a documentary film called Asina falamos was shown. There was also a fun play performed, titled Fuei a corteixar a Robles.

Third Leonese Language Day

The third Leonese Language Day took place on December 30. The Leonese City Council was in charge again, working with different Leonese groups, including puntuLLI. At this celebration, there were special discussions and talks about the Leonese Language.

Fourth Leonese Language Day

At the fourth Leonese Language Day, many talented musicians performed. These included Rodrigo Martínez, Banda de Gaitas, and Ciudá de Llión. A special part of this celebration was when diplomas were given out. These awards went to students who had taken lessons to learn the Leonese language in school. It was a way to celebrate their hard work!
