Leptodactylus is a genus (a group) of leptodactylid frogs. People often call these frogs ditch frogs or white-lipped frogs. They look a lot like their close relatives in the Physalaemus genus. In fact, one species, Leptodactylus lauramiriamae, shows features of both groups.
The name Leptodactylus comes from ancient Greek words. Leptos means 'thin' or 'delicate'. Daktylos means 'finger' or 'toe'. So, the name means 'slender finger' or 'thin toe'. This describes how these frogs look.
