Lesclache Lake (in French: Lac Lesclache) is a freshwater lake in Quebec, Canada. It is located in a wild area called Lac-Pikauba. This area is part of the Charlevoix Regional County Municipality.

Lesclache Lake is a mountain lake that feeds the Barley River. For a long time, the main activity around the lake was forestry, which means cutting down trees. In the mid-1800s, people started visiting the lake for fun activities like tourism. Because it's high up in the mountains, the lake is usually frozen from late October until early May. It's safe to walk on the ice from early December to April.

A forest road helps people get to the area around the lake.

Where is Lesclache Lake?

Lesclache Lake is in a forest area within the Lac-Pikauba territory. It is also part of the zec des Martres. The lake is about 2.1 kilometres (1.3 mi) long and sits at an altitude of 817 metres (2,680 ft) above sea level.

The Barley River flows through the southwest part of Lesclache Lake. The water leaves the lake from a bay on its southwest shore. This spot is about 1.8 kilometres (1.1 mi) south of another lake called Lac des Martres.

How Water Flows from the Lake

From Lesclache Lake, the water flows into the Barley River. The Barley River then travels about 14.1 kilometres (8.8 mi) generally towards the west. After that, the water joins the Malbaie River. The Malbaie River flows for about 108 kilometres (67 mi) and drops 656 metres (2,152 ft) in elevation. Finally, the Malbaie River empties into the St. Lawrence River at a town called La Malbaie.

The town of La Malbaie is about 40.8 kilometres (25.4 mi) west of Lesclache Lake. Another town, Baie-Saint-Paul, is about 41.6 kilometres (25.8 mi) northwest of the lake.

The Name of Lesclache Lake

The name "Lesclache Lake" first appeared on a map of the Lac des Martres area in 1961. This name honors Father Jacques de Lesclaches. He was born in France in 1670. He became a priest in Quebec on October 7, 1714. Father Lesclaches served the parish of Baie-Saint-Paul from 1722 to 1727. He passed away in Quebec on October 31, 1746.

The name "Lac Lesclache" was officially approved by the Quebec Geography Commission on July 3, 1963. Sometimes, the lake is also called "Little Barley Lake." The official name "Lac Lesclache" was added to the Place Names Bank of the Commission de toponymie du Québec on December 5, 1968.
